Every year, I get really excited about Valentine’s. This holiday gives me a great excuse to get knee deep in crafting and at the same time, spend wonderful quality time with my kids. My son is 13 and is now way past Valentine’s so my efforts are concentrated with my 4 year old and 6 year old girls. Now, Ella’s class is big and no candy or goodies are allowed at her school so I have yet to determine what I will be doing for her… but I have a feeling a card from the Costco Photo Center might be in order.

Gracie’s class, on the other hand, has just a handful of kids so I plan to get a little crazy. I just found this fantastic idea in Better Homes and Gardens just this morning. You make cute little love notes, like fortune cookie notes, and put them in ice cream cones toped with chocolate and meringue cookies. Isn’t that fun? I will be looking for cute little scriptures to put in each one…. Love is patient, love is kind… great stuff like that. And, of course, I will deck the little pieces of paper out with some digital scrapbook flair. I can just envision these cute cones wrapped in cellophane. And Gracie and I are sure to have a blast making them! I will likely make them for Ella’s teachers too or she might feel ultra left out.

Here’s a link to the full article. Take note of slides 3-6 for the complete instructions. Enjoy!

With Valentine’s just a few days away, some of you may be panicking! In my house, no matter how crazy life is, store bought Valentine’s just won’t do. So here are some cute and easy Valentine’s that you can help your children make.

Here’s the supply list:

Free Digital Download from Polka Dot Potato (8 x 8 front and back sheet)

straws

small, flat lollypops (not round like dum dums)

good double sided tape like redliner taper (available at Walmart)

An embellishment for the middle (I found a great pack of glittered foam hearts at Michael’s)

scissors

cellophane

ribbon

Here’s the how-to:

Step 1

Download the Freebie from Polka Dot Potato.

Print the front and back of the Valentine’s. There are 4 per sheet.

Step 2

Go ahead and fill out the to and from before cutting.

Step 3

Cut each of the Valentine’s out

Step 4

Place the real lollipop stem in the straw to decide proper placement of the digital lollipop print. Then, tape the digital lollipop to either side of the straw. Replace the real lollipops in the straw if you removed it to tape the digital pieces on the straw. Decorate the center, if desired.

Step 5

Cut a 14″ x 14″ piece of cellophane and wrap the digital lollipop.

Step 6

Use a 14″ piece of ribbon to secure the cellophane.

Present your beautiful Valentine’s in a vase with clear mables in the bottom.

Today I threw together a very simple flyer for a group that I’m involved with at Woodcreek. The group is call Disciples at Heart (DAH) and it’s a one-on-one mentoring program. For the last several years I’ve had the privilege of mentoring a high school girl. Even though it’s a one-on-one program, all of the mentors / mentees get together a couple of times a year to do a outreach project as one big group. Next weekend, we will be treating some local Somalian refugees to a little lunch and learning time.

This is the flyer that will be passed out to the ladies this week.

I used Farrah’s brand new kit, Pumpkin Patch for the design elements, BetinaScript for the title text and myriad pro bold for the body text.

Here’s a great and inexpensive way to showcase your photography and scrapbook layouts.

This is such a easy home decor piece. And the great thing is that you can change out your layouts as the seasons change so you always have some fresh and relevant hanging on your walls.

To create this, I used a curtain rod set and drapery hooks from Target. I sliced off the side of some 12 x 12 page protectors using my Purple Cow Cutter. I placed a piece of 12 x 12 thin chipboard that I bought from Uline to insure that the print didn’t start curling.

The final effect is quite stunning and always a conversation piece!
